Meister Eckhart was a German theologian, philosopher and mystic. Among his many inspiring sermons and writings he wrote one entitled, “How all Creatures Share an Equality of Being.”
In that sermon he wrote that animals do not love half-halfheartedly. He pointed out that we have a deep level of shared energies, and shared being with animals, especially dogs.
“A Dog can instruct humans how to love.”
Another passage says all that needs to be said about the connection and strength we get from our animal companions.
“If I were alone in the desert and feeling afraid, I would like to have a child with me, for then my fear would disappear I would be strengthen….If I could not have a child with me, and if at least I had a live animal with me, I would be comforted. Therefore, let those who bring great wonders, in big, black books take an animal, perhaps a dog—to help them. The life within the animal will give them strength. For equality gives strength in all things”.
Right now these passages have a personal connection for us. We have welcomed a new addition to the family. His name is Lucca and he is the sweetest, most loving little Maltese dog anyone can imagine.
